Captain’s Log, Stardate 20240713.13

Today, the USS White Sands held a regular meeting to discuss our ongoing projects and future plans. While there were no significant updates from the Medical or Tactical/MSG departments, several other areas had important developments.

The Communications officer mentioned potential difficulties with taking notes for the next meeting. Engineering reported sending the gold seal for the Tribble Adoption Paper. The Operations department reported on the upcoming Sci-Fi or Sci-Fact event and the Invasion of the Body Snatchers at the Guild, as well as the Toys For Tots campaign. They also announced the upcoming meetings for the rest of the year.

The Sciences department encouraged members to volunteer at Watermelon Mountain Ranch and report back to the CO. The Tactical/MSG department suggested looking at the 17th Brigade FB page for open positions. Counseling recommended Sir Patrick Stewart’s book “Making It So: A Memoir.”

During the Old Business portion of the meeting, we discussed the IC, Cherry Hills Library Star Trek Week, Bubonicon, and Tribbles.

In New Business, we discussed several important topics. First, we outlined our plans for the upcoming Toys for Tots campaign, including the possibility of collecting donations at Ettin Games during the Black Friday weekend and advertising at Bubonicon. Next, we set the meeting dates for the remainder of the year, which include September 14th, October 5th, November 16th, and January 11th, 2025.

We also addressed the Albuquerque Comic Con, discussing whether or not we should continue to support it. Some members expressed concerns about certain aspects of the event, while others argued that we should still attend and use it as a platform to promote our organization. Ultimately, we decided to take a vote on this issue at our next meeting.

Finally, we discussed the White Sands Ship Build project, which is being undertaken by John Funk. We discussed the estimated cost of the project, which is around $400, and explored potential funding options. The CO offered to temporarily float the cost of the project, but we agreed that we should try to find additional funding sources.

Overall, the meeting was productive and provided valuable updates on our various projects. We look forward to continuing our work and making a positive impact on our community.
